New Microsoft Office 365 software that will enhance your Microsoft Office applications is available to all staff. This page includes more information about Office 365 software and instructions for installing.
Do I need to install Microsoft Office 365?
All staff should install Microsoft Office 365 unless they use a business application that doesn’t currently work with Microsoft Office 365. Please check the list of the applications that do not work with Office 365 – this includes Enterprise (information@work), IDOX DMS, IDOX Uniform, IKEN and APTEAN Respond. If you need to use one of these applications, the new software will not be available to you and it is important that you do not install this.
How do I install Microsoft Office 365?
It is simple to install, just follow the instructions below or watch the video tutorial. Installation should take around 40 minutes.
The software will be available to install on laptops or PC from today, and will be available to all staff in the next few days. If the software is not available when you look, please check again every 24 hours. Please let us know if the software is still unavailable to you after 4 working days.
Before you install the Microsoft Office 365 software, please ensure that all your Microsoft Office applications are closed.
Installing Microsoft Office 365
Please follow these instructions to install the Office 365 software.
Close all Microsoft applications – this includes Teams, Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Project and Visio.
Open the Software Centre app by typing Software Centre into the Type here to search box at the bottom left-hand side of your screen.
Please note: if the taskbar at the bottom of your screen doesn’t include a search window right, click on it and select Search then Show Search Box from the pop-up menu that appears.
The window below will open. Double click the Software Centre app name or select Open.
Click Microsoft 365 Apps – Monthly in the Software Centre app screen below. Click Install in the window that opens.
Please note it can take up to 30 minutes for Microsoft 365 Apps (which is Microsoft 365 Office) to install. It is essential that you re-boot your device following the installation.
You should install Microsoft Office 365 by Wednesday 8 September.
Do you use Project and Visio?
If you use Project and Visio, you should be aware that this will be uninstalled when Office 365 is installed. If you use this software, you should have been contacted by the project team. If it is important that you have Visio and / or Project installed immediately following your installation of Office 365, email Microsoft365ProjectTeam@portsmouthcc.gov.uk.
What is Microsoft Office 365 and why are we introducing it?
Microsoft Office 365 is new software that will upgrade the latest version of Microsoft Office applications. This includes Microsoft Outlook, Teams, Excel, PowerPoint, Word and OneNote.
The new version includes lots of enhancements to Microsoft Office that will enable our new ways of working when used in conjunction with Teams and OneDrive when it is available from September. The look and feel of the applications will be familiar to the current Office applications that you use.
